Our Story
In 2000, surfing buddies turned successful restaurateurs Louis Coulombe and Stephan Bel-Robert, purchased undeveloped upcountry land with a citrus and stone fruit orchard and a few coffee trees. Louis and Stephan had always loved the Waipoli area. One day, after paragliding in an area above the farm, they noticed the property for sale. Since the duo had already been discussing how nice it would be to spend more time in that part of the island, they felt the opportunity was kismet. They began envisioning what the farm would produce, what methods it would employ, and how the team might come together.
O’o Farm inaugurated coffee production in 2005 by importing 60 coffee starts of Red Catuai (97%) and Yellow Cattura from Kāʻanapali. A visit from Jean-Nicolas Wintgens, an internationally known agronomist, in 2007 was instrumental in recognizing coffee potential at the farm. Approximately 200 more plants were germinated by the farm team and later planted in the shade canopy around the kitchen area. Later in 2010, one thousand plants were imported from Molokai and planted on the coffee hillside by the orchard manager. Plantings from the farm’s seedlings continue over 8.4 acres with approximately 1200 tree sites, predominantly Red Catuai. O’o Farm became a competitive level producer of single-site coffee in 2015 and earned its first state title in 2016 with 3rd place in Maui District.
In 2007 tour operations began with the aim of showcasing the incredible produce the farm was cultivating and introducing the public to the successful coffee that was resulting.
Today O’o Farm matures with Hawaiian coffee & fruit trees, rows of lettuce & garden vegetables, and greenhouses with flavorful tomatoes, herbs, and flowers.
